Workers Compensation Discount for Drug-Free Workplace: Eleven states now offer some form of workers compensation premium discounts to companies who have drug-free workplace policies. Most states that make this offer require drug-free workplace certification to qualify for the discount. Each state has different requirements, but generally follow the federal guidelines for a drug-free workplace. Certification is renewed yearly. Some states offer the discounts for a few years, others offer it for longer. Ohio offers the discount for 8 years. The purpose of the discount is to provide a cost incentive to businesses, especially small businesses to implement a drug-free workplace. The discounts range from up to 5% to as much as 20%.
